Two-Day
OVERVIEW
You'll start our 2-day course with an overview of rifle safety and then jump straight into a presentation of the rifles and gear you'll use. The rifles, ammo and gear for the course are all provided by Best of the West. Each student will be assigned a custom 6.5 Creedmoor built by Best of the West to complete the course along with ammunition
Fundamentals
After a demonstration by the instructors, each student will get on their assigned rifles where you'll learn about the fundamentals of precision rifle shooting starting with the rifle to shooter interface including:
- Setting the rifle up for the shooter
- Scope height and how that effects cheek weld
- What a proper cheek weld should feel like
- How to address the rifle with your trigger hand
- What to do with your support hand
- How to self diagnose Natural Point of Aim issues through dry fire practice
LIVE FIRE RANGE
Once you are feeling confident in your fundamentals of handling the rifle we'll move to the live fire range and take you through the process of zeroing your rifle followed by how to figure out your dope to over 1000 yards. Specific topics include:
- What DOPE(Data Observed on Previous Engagements) solvers to use
- When and how to check your zero
- Chronographing your rifle
- Checking and inputting atmospheric conditions into the solver
- Coriolos effect
- How to true muzzle velocity and ballistic coefficient to make your solver line up with actual trajectory
WIND CALLING & PRECISION SCIENCE
By this point in the course you'll be feeling confident in your handling of a precision rifle and we can jump into the finer aspects of wind calling. Precision shooting is a paradox of science and art. It is an exact science for elevation but a guess at wind. Wind calling is the art of precision shooting and your skill will increase with experience but we will guide you through the major components of wind calling to allow you to take full advantage of your experience. Some key points include:
- How to measure wind at your location and input it into your solver
- What wind speed and direction does to your dope
- How to call wind based on what you see in your optics
- What the terrain does to wind and how wind flows
- How to bracket your target based on the high and low wind conditions

INSTRUCTORS
All of our instructors at The Accuracy Academy are passionate hunters and precision rifle competitors. Their extensive experience will help shorten your learning curve and accelerate your journey to becoming confident with your rifle system.
Course Instructor
Jared Miller
Jared grew up hunting mule deer with his dad and brothers in Southern California's sparsely populated high desert. Between the low game numbers and abysmal shooting ability, it was a long time before he found success. He defines success differently nowadays (less focus on killing and more on the experience of adventures with friends and family), but he has built a skillset behind a precision rifle that affords him extreme confidence when presented with an opportunity on game.
It wasn't always this way for him. After two hunting seasons in Montana, having missed multiple animals and not trusting himself to attempt a shot on a nice bull elk that was outside his comfortable shooting distance, he decided to dig in on precision shooting. This led him down all sorts of paths, from traveling the country competing in PRS and NRL matches, wildcatting different calibers, and testing every reloading technique you can think of. Through trial and error, he's developed a deep understanding of high-level shooting skills and an intimate knowledge of the gear used for hunting, shooting, and reloading that allows hunters and competitors to succeed however they define success.
His passion for teaching comes from the joy experienced when streamlining the learning curve for others. His goal is to save students time and money by allowing them to focus their efforts on the details that matter rather than getting lost in rabbit holes that don't.
His overall approach to shooting is identifying and focusing on processes that, when followed, result in the outcome the shooter ultimately wants. In short, good results are a byproduct of a good process.
